The Seven Mountains of The Lamb

Listen to this article

Introduction

The devil’s kingdom is designed to copy and challenge the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Within the book of revelation, we can never fully understand the symbolism of the dragon, beast and harlot until we understand the revelation of the father, the son and the church.

In Revelation 17, we are told that the woman Great Babylon sits upon a seven headed beast and the seven heads represent seven mountains which are also seven kings.

In order to fully understand the Seven Mountains of the Beast, we need to first look at the seven mountains of the Lamb.

Seven Dominions

While I believe that there are actual seven literal mountains the City of Great Babylon sits on, these seven have a more spiritual significants. They signify seven dominions of kingship.

These seven dominions are revealed in heaven at the resurrection of christ.

Revelation 5:11-12 (NIV)

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.

12 In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

In the above scripture, we find that The Lamb, Jesus Christ was counted as worthy to receive seven things: Power, Wealth, Wisdom, Strength, Honour, Glory and Praise.

These seven things are what I am referring to as the seven dominions of his kingship, which come through the seven spirits upon his head.

Seven Mountains

In the four gospels, there are seven recorded instances that Jesus went up a mountain, and in each of these instances an aspect of Christ’s domain as king is revealed.

These seven mountain events in the ministry of Christ are exactly in line with the seven things mentioned in Revelation 5:12.

I am going to look at them in the order that they are revealed in the bible:

1.Wealth

2.Wisdom

3.Power

4.Glory

5.Honour

6.Strength

7.Praise

1.) Mountain of Wealth

The greek word translated as wealth in this verse is Ploutos. It literally means an abundance of external possessions. As king of the world, Jesus is worthy to receive the whole world and everything in it, as his possession.

During the ministry of Jesus, this mountain was completely given to Satan, and so it was Satan that took Jesus to the mountains wealth.

Matthew 4:8-10 (NIV)

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

Jesus had just received the spirit of God upon him, and it was a greater treasure, than all the wealth in the world.

2.) Mountain of Wisdom

As King, Jesus was entitled to receive the domain of wisdom. After the encounter with Satan, Jesus then climbs another mountain, and upon this mountain he reveals the Wisdom. This event is known as The Sermon on the mount.

Matthew 5:1-3 (ESV)

1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This sermon on the mountain is recorded in Mathew Chapter 5, 6 and 7 and is the longest continuous discourse of Jesus. Upon this mountain, Jesus covers all fundamental issues starting with the Beatitudes, good deeds, Fulfilment of the law, murder, adultery, divorce, oaths, revenge, loving enemies, giving, Lord’s prayer, fasting, wealth, anxiety, judgment, receiving, entrance to heaven, false prophets and concludes with true discipleship,

These were the reactions to his teaching.

Matthew 7:28-29 (NIV)

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,

Mark 6:2 (ESV)

2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?

3.) Mountain of Power

The Greek word translated as Power in Rev 5:12 is Dunamis. This is the word that is also translated as miracles or mighty works.

As king, Jesus was worthy to receive power. Jesus goes up a mountain a third time, to reveal his power.

Matthew 15:29-33 (ESV)

29 Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there. 30 And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, 31 so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.

36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.

Upon this mountain, Jesus revealed his power. He healed the sick, lame and blind, and then fed 4 000 men with 7 loaves of bread. It was creative power.

4.) Mountain of Glory

As King, Jesus is worthy to receive glory. The next time that Jesus took people up a mountain, it was to reveal his glory.

 Matthew 17:1-3 (ESV)

1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.

Jesus stood upon the mountain of glory. Peter and John would later testify concerning this event.

2 Peter 1:16-18 (ESV)

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.

John 1:14 (NKJV)

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

5.) Mountain of Honour

The greek word translated as honour is Time (tee-may). It refers to the honour that a person has because of his rank or office. Jesus as the king and God, was worthy to receive due honour. After his resurrection, Jesus appears before his disciples upon a mountain.

Matthew 28:16-18 (ESV)

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

When some doubted whether Jesus was worthy to receive such honour, He himself then reveals that he had been given all authority in heaven and on earth. He was Lord of all.

6.) Mountain of Strength/ Might

The greek word which was translated as Strength, is Ischus. It refers to force and might.

As king, Jesus is worthy to receive strength or might. Strength by which he can fight battles, command armies and deliver his subjects from oppression.

Jesus took his followers upon a mountain, and there he revealed his might.

Mark 3:13-15 (ESV)

13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons.

By appointing the twelve to preach and cast out demons, he is showing his might in warfare. He was not only able to fight demons himself, but he could raise other people to do it under him.

7.) Mountain of Praise/ Blessing

The greek word translated Praise is Eulogia. It is sometimes translated as blessing. It refers to speaking words of praise, adoration,

Luke 19:37-38 (NIV)

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

This is the only mountain that is named. The mt of Olives is associated with the Coming of Christ as king to deliver Israel. As Jesus was coming down this mountain, the whole city held palm branches, and placed their clothes on the ground and shouted joyful praises. Now

Summary

Jesus Christ presides over the seven mountains of dominion. Power, Praise, Glory, Honour, Wealth, Wisdom and Might.

Jesus went upon seven mountains to reveal that these seven dominions belong to him. These seven dominions are a revelation of the seven spirits of God.
